Instagram is taking action against "unoriginal" content. Starting now, the platform will limit the reach of users who repost other creators' work without adding meaningful changes. This includes single images and carousel posts.
As reported by TechCrunch, Instagram defines "original" content as posts that transform third-party material with unique text, creative edits, or voiceover. Low-effort edits like watermark overlays or speed adjustments do not qualify.
However, according to Meta, AI-generated content remains unaffected. Meta appears all-in on AI, provided it is "original." This stands in contrast to YouTube, which is actively fighting low-quality AI clips. Instagram users may see fewer recycled memes but should expect the same volume of AI slop.
