YouTube is making AI disclosure labels more prominent across its platform, just as Google rolls out new AI-powered editing tools for creators.
Starting now, labels on long-form videos will appear directly below the video player, while labels on Shorts will show as an overlay on the video itself. YouTube says the goal is to give viewers immediate context about AI-generated or meaningfully altered content.
The platform will also automatically apply labels if its systems detect significant use of AI, even if the creator did not disclose it. Creators can contest incorrect labels through YouTube Studio, but disclosures will remain permanent for content made with YouTube's own AI tools.
This update comes as Google expands its AI capabilities. At Google I/O 2026, the company introduced Gemini Omni, a multimodal model that integrates Gemini with media-generation tools, enabling users to create and edit videos using text, images, audio, and existing footage. Google also unveiled new AI features for Shorts, allowing users to restyle videos, insert themselves into clips, and remix other creators' content.
YouTube emphasized that these changes do not affect video recommendations or monetization. The company stated its objective is to balance transparency with creator control, ensuring both creators and viewers have the information they need.
