Several Middle Eastern countries closed their airspace and major airlines cancelled flights on Saturday, February 28, following reported strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran.
Iran, Iraq, Syria, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates announced at least partial closures of their skies. This led to widespread cancellations by carriers including Air France, Air India, Turkish Airlines, Lufthansa, and British Airways.
Iran's Civil Aviation Organisation declared the country's entire airspace closed until further notice. Israel also shut its airspace to civilian flights. Iraq and the UAE announced partial and temporary closures, while Syria closed a portion of its southern airspace for 12 hours. Jordan's air force reported shooting down ballistic missiles.
