Israel’s National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir declared that all of Lebanon must burn following the combat deaths of four Israeli soldiers. The statement came immediately after the Israel Defense Forces confirmed a tank was struck during operations near Kfar Tebnit.
The military identified Lieutenant Colonel Dor Gedalia Ben Simhon, commander of the 52nd Battalion, among the casualties. Ben-Gvir asserted that Israeli security cannot be compromised despite diplomatic pressures.
This escalation occurs days after US and Iranian leaders signed a provisional agreement requiring allies to suspend military activities in Lebanon. Ben-Gvir explicitly rejected external constraints, stating that American respect does not override Israel's obligation to defend its citizens.
The minister remains a polarizing figure within the coalition. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently criticized Ben-Gvir’s conduct toward detained activists, stating his actions violated national values. Despite internal friction, Ben-Gvir continues to advocate for aggressive military responses to cross-border threats.
