The Supreme Court has temporarily blocked a lower court ruling that would have required in-person prescriptions for the abortion pill mifepristone, preserving remote access via telehealth and mail order for now.

The case stems from a lawsuit by Louisiana against the FDA, arguing that relaxed federal rules allowing remote prescription undermine the Dobbs decision. The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals had reinstated an in-person dispensing requirement on May 1, threatening access nationwide, even in states where abortion remains legal.

Pro-choice groups, including Planned Parenthood and the ACLU, hailed the decision as a temporary reprieve but warned the fight is not over. Louisiana must respond by May 11.
