An Iranian drone attack in Kuwait has resulted in severe injuries for dozens of U.S. service members, exceeding previous reports. The strike on a tactical operations center at the Shuaiba port outside Kuwait City on March 1 inflicted brain injuries, shrapnel trauma, and burns. At least one service member required limb amputation.
Smoke filled the building during the attack, complicating rescue efforts. Over 30 military members remain hospitalized with battle injuries, with casualties treated in San Antonio, Washington D.C., and Germany. Approximately 20 were evacuated to Germany with "urgent" injuries including traumatic brain injuries and concussions.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth described the attack, noting that while air defenses intercepted most projectiles, one managed to penetrate and hit the fortified operations center.
Separately, at least one American was killed in a Saudi Arabia strike on March 1. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell stated that approximately 140 American service members have been injured since the war began, with the vast majority sustaining minor wounds and many already returned to duty.
