Top United Nations officials condemned a Pakistani overnight strike on a Kabul rehabilitation center, reportedly killing over 400 people and injuring more than 250. World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus confirmed the severity of the attack targeting the Omid Drug Rehabilitation Facility.
Since hostilities escalated late last month, hundreds of Afghan civilians have been killed or injured. Tens of thousands remain displaced across the south and southeast. Six health facilities in Afghanistan have been impacted since late February.
UN Human Rights Office spokesperson Thameen Al-Kheetan described the site as a scene of total destruction. He emphasized that international humanitarian law strictly protects medical facilities and civilians. Volker Türk, the UN human rights chief, called for an immediate end to hostilities and full accountability for those responsible.
