Mexican authorities have launched a murder investigation after discovering a decomposing body in an abandoned SUV outside Estadio Caliente in Tijuana. The vehicle was parked in a supermarket lot directly across from the stadium where Iran’s national soccer team is currently training for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Police report the victim was wrapped in plastic and showed signs of violence. Investigators state the body had been in the vehicle for an extended period before its discovery on June 12. Officials emphasize there is absolutely no connection between this homicide and the Iranian delegation or tournament operations.
Iran’s training schedule continues without disruption as Team Melli prepares for its seventh World Cup appearance. The squad relocated to Tijuana due to visa complications and geopolitical tensions between Iran and the United States. Despite the incident, the team maintains heightened security protocols while preparing for group stage matches in the first tri-nation World Cup.
