DUBAI, June 23: Iran's state-owned banking technology provider reported cyberattacks disrupting card-based banking services at Bank Melli, Bank Saderat, and Bank Tejarat. The attacks forced a suspension of all card-related operations to prevent further unauthorized access, with cybersecurity teams actively restoring normal functionality.
Impacted services include ATMs, point-of-sale terminals, and mobile applications linked to card systems. Disruptions first emerged on June 14 due to attacks on shared communication infrastructure, affecting other banks like the Export Development Bank of Iran as well.
Despite earlier disruptions taking several days to resolve, officials asserted that customer data was not compromised. No statement has clarified the identity of potential attackers, though Iranian authorities typically point to foreign adversaries such as Israel, which has not commented on the allegations.
