Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has sharply criticized Jose Mourinho's remarks regarding racism allegations against Real Madrid's Vinicius Jr. Kompany labeled Mourinho's comments as a "huge mistake" in leadership.

During a Champions League playoff match, Vinicius Jr. and teammates interpreted a comment made by Benfica's Gianluca Prestianni as a racial slur. While Benfica has defended their player, UEFA is investigating the incident.

Mourinho had suggested Vinicius Jr. provoked the crowd with his goal celebrations and argued Benfica could not be racist because their greatest player, Eusebio, was Black. Kompany countered this by highlighting the historical struggles Black players faced, questioning if Mourinho understood that context.

"For me, in terms of leadership, it's a huge mistake. It's something that we should not accept," Kompany stated in a lengthy response. He drew parallels to his own father's experiences as a Black man in the 1960s, emphasizing the pressure to remain silent and excel.

Kompany acknowledged knowing people who worked with Mourinho and spoke positively of him as a person, but maintained that the Portuguese manager erred in this instance. "He's made a mistake and it's something that hopefully in the future won't happen like this again," Kompany concluded.
