Federal prosecutors have filed criminal charges against the operator of the cargo ship Dali, two years after the vessel struck Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge, killing six construction workers.
Synergy Marine and one of its employees face charges of conspiracy, obstruction, and misconduct resulting in death. Prosecutors allege the company misled investigators about safety hazards and failed to disclose concerns to the Coast Guard.
A spokesperson for Synergy vowed to defend against the allegations. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche called the collapse a preventable tragedy.
The indictment unsealed Tuesday also targets the Dali's technical supervisor, Radhakrishnan Karthik Nair. The March 2024 incident caused significant economic disruption, and the bridge's reconstruction is expected to take years and cost billions.
