Democratic Republic of Congo coach Sebastien Desabre received news of his father's death just hours before his team's World Cup Round of 32 match against England. The Congolese side lost 2-1 in Atlanta after holding an early lead for over an hour.

The announcement was made by team media officer Jerry Kalemo at the end of Desabre's post-match press conference. An official confirmed to Reuters that Desabre had been informed before the game, where his team came agonizingly close to an upset victory before conceding two goals to Harry Kane.

Desabre's father had reportedly been ill for some time. The coach turns 50 next month.
