Deadly flash floods have killed at least 26 people across eastern Afghanistan. The worst impact was in Nuristan province, where homes and roads were swept away.
The flooding, triggered by heavy rainfall on July 20th, also killed three Afghan refugees near the Torkham border crossing with Pakistan.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing. Aid agencies report the disaster damaged water supplies for about 1,000 families and destroyed agricultural land.
Humanitarian teams are deploying mobile health clinics and emergency supplies. The response is hampered by difficult terrain and damaged roads, with forecasts warning of more rain.
