The death toll from two devastating earthquakes that struck northern Venezuela has risen to 1,943. More than 10,500 people are injured and over 28,000 are in temporary care.

Back-to-back 7.2- and 7.5-magnitude tremors hit on the evening of June 24th. Emergency crews and international volunteers are racing to rescue survivors from the rubble.

Venezuela's acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, said 3,681 rescuers from 30 countries have joined the search. The international community has provided over 1,000 tons of supplies and 118 search dogs.

More than 6,450 people have been found alive. UNICEF estimates 1.8 million people, including 680,000 children, require humanitarian assistance.

The United Nations Development Programme estimates direct physical damage at $6.7 billion.
