A dramatic rescue unfolded in Venezuela as search teams pulled a small dog alive from the rubble, five days after twin earthquakes killed more than 1,900 people.
Dramatic video showed the moment a rescue team from El Salvador extracted the dog from a crumbled building in Caraballeda, in the devastated state of La Guaira. The dog, named Giselle, was seen enthusiastically licking her rescuer's face as a crowd applauded.
Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele shared the footage, noting the dog's name and asking potential owners to come forward with proof.
The rescue offers a small moment of hope amid massive devastation. International teams are also working to free a 44-year-old security guard, Hernán Gil Flores, trapped for six days in a partially collapsed building. A task force leader described the operation as "very complex" due to aftershocks.
The 7.5 and 7.2 magnitude quakes struck on June 24. Tens of thousands remain missing.
