NASA's Orion spacecraft splashed down in the Pacific Ocean, safely returning four astronauts after the first human voyage to the Moon in almost five decades. The capsule endured extreme heat, reaching 5,000 degrees Fahrenheit, and a temporary radio blackout during its atmospheric reentry.
The spacecraft, named Integrity, deployed its parachutes to slow its descent before impacting the water. The USS John P. Murtha recovery ship was on hand to extract the crew, including Commander Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen. All four astronauts reported good health and high spirits following their historic mission.
