The death toll from floods in Kenya has risen to 88, with over 34,000 displaced and multiple regions affected since early March. The Nyando River overflowed in western Kenya, submerging parts of the Ahero Bridge and blocking key transport routes. Authorities warn motorists to avoid flooded areas, especially at night, due to hazardous water conditions.
Rescue operations led by the Kenya Red Cross have evacuated more than 200 people and 200 livestock, including six unaccompanied children now under care. Over 900 students remain at risk at Ahero Girls National School as waters rise.
In Tana River County, the River Tana breached its banks, flooding farms in Mbalambala and Asako village, threatening food security. In Uasin Gishu County, rising waters along the Sosiani River are impacting residential and hospitality areas.
Displaced families are sheltering in government offices, churches, and health centers.
