Greece has entered its astronaut era. Dr. Adrianos Golemis, a Greek scientist, is now training at the European Astronaut Centre in Cologne - the first Greek selected for the European Space Agency’s astronaut programme.

He was chosen from more than 22,000 applicants in one of Europe’s most competitive aerospace selections.

Historically absent from human spaceflight, Greece is accelerating investments in microsatellites and nanosatellites. A small national satellite fleet nears completion.

Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiou called the milestone nationally inspirational - and strategically vital. Satellite data now support weather forecasting, fire management, agriculture subsidies, water protection, cybersecurity, and defense.

The goal: build a domestic space applications ecosystem to drive economic innovation and public decision-making.
