Hezbollah said its fighters clashed with Israeli forces beyond an Israeli-declared "yellow line" in south Lebanon on Wednesday, despite a ceasefire. This comes a day after Israel said it was expanding ground operations.
Israel stepped up strikes on south and east Lebanon on Tuesday, issuing evacuation warnings for at least 50 towns and villages and killing at least 31 people. Hezbollah also kept up its attacks.
Iran-backed Hezbollah said its fighters "clashed with the enemy forces at point-blank range" in the town of Zawtar al-Sharqiyah, just beyond the Israeli-declared "yellow line" in south Lebanon where its troops have been operating.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday that the Israeli army "is operating with substantial forces on the ground and securing strategically dominant positions. We are reinforcing the security buffer zone in order to protect the communities of northern Israel."
The fighting has also intensified in the West Bekaa region, a key supply route for Hezbollah linking south Lebanon with its strongholds in the north. A military delegation comprising six Lebanese officers is set to participate in talks at the Pentagon on Friday.
