Iran's judiciary has confirmed the execution of Sassan Azadvar Joonqani, a 21-year-old karate champion, early Thursday at Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan. He was arrested during January protests and convicted of "enmity against God."

A source close to the family said his funeral was held under tight security, with only ten relatives allowed to attend. Human rights group Hengaw alleged he was tortured in detention to force a confession.

The execution comes as the UN reports at least 21 executions and more than 4,000 arrests since the start of the Iran war in late February. Amnesty International recorded at least 19 executions in recent weeks, warning of enforced disappearances and torture.

Iran's judiciary chief, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, has ordered courts to process detainee cases faster and stated that Tehran will ignore international calls to halt executions.
