Iranian soccer chief Mehdi Taj will meet FIFA President Gianni Infantino in the coming days to seek assurances that the country's institutions will be respected at the World Cup in the United States.

Canada, a co-host, denied Taj entry last week over his links to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Both the US and Canada classify the IRGC as a terrorist entity.

Taj told state broadcaster IRIB that if FIFA cannot guarantee respect, Iran may reconsider participation. Iran's Foreign Ministry backed Taj, insisting it is FIFA's duty to ensure visa issuance without political considerations.

Iran's participation has been in question since US and Israeli air strikes on Iran in late February. Coach Amir Ghalenoei said the final 26-man squad will be selected after a training camp in Turkey. The team plans to arrive in the US 14 days before their opening match against New Zealand on June 15 in Los Angeles.
