Iranian authorities held mass public weddings in Tehran for hundreds of couples who signed up for a state-sponsored scheme declaring their readiness to sacrifice their lives in the war with the U.S. and Israel.
The ceremonies, conducted late Monday in several major squares, including Imam Hossein square, were broadcast on state TV to boost wartime morale. President Trump has repeatedly threatened new military action amid a shaky ceasefire.
Couples arrived in military jeeps with mounted machine guns and were married on a stage presided over by a cleric. The stage featured balloons and a giant image of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, who succeeded his father after his killing on the first day of the war.
Iranian authorities say millions, including top officials, have signed up for the “self-sacrifice” scheme. The event is part of a wider campaign to show national unity.
