Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the military to strike targets in Beirut's southern suburbs, a Hezbollah stronghold known as Dahiyeh, according to a statement from his office.

The order, issued jointly with Defense Minister Israel Katz, comes in response to what Israel calls repeated ceasefire violations by Hezbollah, including attacks on Israeli cities and citizens.

Despite a mid-April truce, Israeli forces and Hezbollah have continued to exchange fire. Hezbollah has increasingly deployed cheap, easy-to-assemble kamikaze drones that have evaded Israeli air defenses and killed several troops in southern Lebanon.

The conflict, the most significant spillover of the broader Iran war, has displaced over 1.2 million Lebanese and killed more than 3,370 people, according to Lebanese officials. Israel reports 24 soldiers and four civilians killed over the same period.
