India condemned recent Iranian attacks on Gulf energy infrastructure as “unacceptable,” citing severe risks to global and domestic energy supplies.
Iran struck Qatar’s Ras Laffan facility-the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) hub-in retaliation for an Israeli attack on its South Pars gas field. The assault threatens fuel flows to India, which depends on Qatar for over 40% of its LNG imports used in power, industry, fertilizer, and households.
New Delhi warned the attacks “deeply disturb” an already fragile global energy landscape. With the Strait of Hormuz nearly shut down due to Iranian threats, tanker traffic has stalled, stranding 22 Indian vessels and over 600 crew members.
Foreign ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal confirmed LNG supplies are already being impacted and said India is coordinating with regional stakeholders to secure unimpeded cargo transit.
