BEIRUT - Israel conducted an airstrike on Beirut's southern suburbs Wednesday for the first time since the ceasefire with Hezbollah took effect last month. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the target was a senior commander in Hezbollah's elite Radwan Force. Israeli media reported the commander was killed.

The attack risks unraveling the broader truce between the U.S. and Iran, which hinges on the halt of Israeli strikes in Lebanon. Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam called high-level meetings with Israel “premature," demanding a timetable for Israel's withdrawal from southern Lebanon first.

Hezbollah has responded with rocket and drone fire. The conflict has killed over 2,700 people in Lebanon since March 2. Israel reports 17 soldiers killed in southern Lebanon and two civilians in northern Israel.
