Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar has accused Spain of "standing with all the tyrants of the world," specifically alleging Madrid is now siding with Iran.
Sa'ar stated that Spain is an outlier in Europe regarding its stance on the ongoing conflict, claiming many EU foreign ministers share his view. He made these remarks during an interview on Euronews' Europe Today.
Spain's Foreign Affairs Minister Manuel Albares dismissed the accusations as "absurd and ridiculous," asserting the Spanish government maintains a coherent foreign policy. He affirmed that Spanish territory would not be used for strikes on Iran, aligning with international law and UN principles.
Earlier, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez had rejected "unilateral military action by the United States and Israel" on Iran, warning it escalates the global order. Sánchez also condemned Iran's regime, the Revolutionary Guard, and Hezbollah, while insisting that "violence only generates more violence."
Spain has emerged as a notable critic of US-Israeli foreign policy in the region, notably its actions in Gaza. While other European nations have condemned Iranian attacks, Spain is the sole major EU country to explicitly criticize US-Israeli strikes on Iran.
