Iranian Nobel laureate Narges Mohammadi has been hospitalized after a catastrophic deterioration in her physical condition, according to the Narges Mohammadi Foundation.

The 53-year-old activist was detained in Mashhad weeks before the 2022 nationwide protests. She was later moved to a prison in Zanjan. Supporters had warned of her declining health, and in late March, she suffered a suspected heart attack without receiving adequate medical care.

Her family called the transfer a "last-minute move" and expressed fears it may have been too late. Attorney Mustafa Nili said, "Despite serious heart problems, addressing the neurological condition is now the clinical priority."

Mohammadi, a symbol of resistance for Iranian youth, has been imprisoned multiple times over decades for her human rights advocacy.
