Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine has fled the country after two months in hiding following January's disputed presidential election. The 44-year-old, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, said he left for "critical engagements" to rally global support against President Yoweri Museveni, who claimed 72% of the vote.

Wine insists he won the election, alleging it was rigged in Museveni's favor. He denounced the crackdown on his supporters, including raids on homes and military roadblocks. His residence in Kampala remains surrounded by troops.

Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Museveni's son and military chief, initially called Wine "wanted dead or alive," but deleted the post. The BBC reported that 30 alleged militants from Wine's party were killed after protests.

"Running for president is not a crime," Wine declared in a video statement.
