A man identifying himself as 'Lucifer' attacked three people with a machete at New York City's Grand Central station before being fatally shot by police. The assailant, identified as 44-year-old Anthony Griffin, slashed an 84-year-old man and a 65-year-old man about the head and face, and a 70-year-old woman sustained cuts to her shoulder. Police stated Griffin ignored demands to drop the weapon and advanced on officers. The incident caused major disruptions at the busy rail hub.
NYPD Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch reported the suspect entered the subway system Saturday morning and attacked victims on different platforms. Transit officers, alerted to the situation, confronted Griffin, who was armed with a large knife and behaving erratically. After repeated demands to surrender were ignored, an officer discharged his weapon, striking the suspect. Griffin was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital. The three victims were hospitalized with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
