In a landmark ruling, Lee Milne has been sentenced to eight years in prison for culpable homicide after prosecutors successfully argued he drove his wife, Kimberley Milne, to suicide through prolonged physical and psychological abuse. This is the first time Scottish prosecutors have held an abusive spouse legally accountable for a victim's self-inflicted death.

Prosecutors presented evidence detailing Milne's systematic abuse over their 18-month marriage, including physical assaults, choking, confinement, and psychological manipulation designed to exploit his wife's vulnerabilities. Judge Lorna Drummond emphasized that domestic abuse involves a pervasive pattern of control, where each act of physical, psychological, or financial abuse escalates pressure and erodes a victim's independence.

Kimberley Milne, 28, died by suicide in July 2023. Evidence showed a pattern of escalating control, with Milne physically assaulting her, restricting her movement, and isolating her. Surveillance footage from her final day captured Milne driving his car erratically towards her in a parking lot before she walked to a nearby bridge and jumped.
