Manitoba RCMP have dismantled an interprovincial drug trafficking network, seizing over $1.5 million in drugs and cash. The investigation, dubbed Project Deepwater, led to the discovery of dangerous substances, including animal tranquilizers mixed with heroin.
Authorities reported the seizure of nine kilograms of cocaine, four kilograms of illicit marijuana, a small amount of crack cocaine, and $87,000 in cash. Also discovered were approximately 7,000 counterfeit pills disguised as over-the-counter pain medication. Lab analysis revealed these pills were a potent and dangerous combination of heroin and veterinary sedatives.

A 35-year-old Winnipeg man faces charges including drug possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime. Officials expressed concern that these disguised drugs pose a significant risk of overdose and death to users.
The investigation is ongoing, with indications that the drugs were distributed nationally, and cocaine sourced from Colombia. This seizure follows similar alerts issued across Canada regarding the presence of potent sedatives like medetomidine in the unregulated drug supply.
