Mexican drug lord Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, widely known as "El Mencho" and leader of the powerful Jalisco New Generation Cartel, has reportedly been killed. The Associated Press confirmed the death, citing an anonymous official who stated the operation took place on Sunday in the western state of Jalisco.

This development follows hours of significant disruption, with burning vehicles blocking roads in Jalisco and neighboring states-a tactic frequently employed by cartels to impede military action.

El Mencho was a high-priority target for U.S. authorities, with the State Department offering a reward of up to $15 million for information leading to his arrest. The Trump administration had previously designated the Jalisco New Generation Cartel as a foreign terrorist organization in February.
