A catastrophic building collapse in the Philippines has left dozens feared trapped. The incident occurred on Sunday in Angeles City, north of Manila, where a nine-story structure under construction gave way.

City officials report that eight people were rescued from the vicinity, and 11 others, including the site foreman, managed to escape. However, the site foreman indicates 30 to 40 individuals remain unaccounted for.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing but are complicated by the concrete construction. The cause of the collapse remains under investigation as the city engineer reviews the construction history.

Authorities are working to secure power lines knocked down in the incident and are urging residents to cooperate to facilitate rescue efforts.
