Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a secret visit to the United Arab Emirates recently, meeting with President Mohammed bin Zayed. Netanyahu's office confirmed the trip, calling it a "historic breakthrough" in bilateral relations. The UAE has not commented publicly.
The visit follows a Wall Street Journal report that the UAE carried out military strikes on Iran last month - an action Abu Dhabi has not acknowledged. Separately, U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee confirmed Israel has sent Iron Dome air-defense systems and personnel to the UAE.
Netanyahu previously traveled to the UAE in 2018. The UAE was the first nation to sign the U.S.-brokered Abraham Accords in 2020, normalizing ties with Israel.
