Emergency services work at the scene after an Air Canada Express jet collided with a fire truck at New York's LaGuardia Airport in Queens, New York, US on Mar 23, 2026.

New York's LaGuardia Airport is facing significant delays and cancellations for the second straight day following a deadly collision on Sunday night between an Air Canada Express jet and a fire truck on the runway. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) expects one of the two runways to remain closed until Friday.

As of 9:45 AM EDT, FlightAware reported 221 cancellations and 214 delays, totaling about 20% of scheduled flights. The FAA has warned of major delays throughout the day.

National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) chair Jennifer Homendy plans to hold a press conference later to detail findings from the cockpit and flight data recorders. The accident, which occurred while landing, killed both pilots and seriously injured nine others, reigniting concerns over limited air traffic control staffing at major US airports.

Homendy said the collision happened during an overnight shift, and the NTSB will interview the air traffic controller who was handling another emergency just before the crash.
