A British nuclear-powered submarine, HMS Anson, has been deployed to the northern Arabian Sea amid escalating regional tensions. The Astute-class vessel, armed with Tomahawk missiles and Spearfish torpedoes, traveled over 5,500 miles from Australia to strengthen deterrence.

The move followed Iran’s failed ballistic missile launch toward Diego Garcia, a key U.S.-U.K. military base in the Indian Ocean, located roughly 2,485 miles from Iran. Both missiles were intercepted or failed in flight.

The UK authorized U.S. forces to use its bases for defensive operations targeting Iranian missile threats, but clarified it did not participate in initial offensive strikes. Downing Street emphasized Britain’s intent to avoid deeper involvement in a regional war.

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi condemned the UK’s decision, calling it 'participation in aggression' and demanding an end to cooperation with the U.S.

British defense assets, including Typhoon jets, remain engaged in defensive missions, coordinating closely with allies to counter drone and missile threats.
