Singapore authorities have issued a correction order to Terry Xu, publisher of The Online Citizen, under the Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act. The directive targets false claims regarding Attorney-General Lucien Wong's recent re-appointment.
The Ministry of Law identified three specific falsehoods in a March 9 article. Xu incorrectly alleged Wong failed to recuse himself from matters involving 38 Oxley Road and misrepresented parliamentary procedures regarding Workers' Party chair Sylvia Lim. Officials confirmed Wong recused himself and that Lim was permitted follow-up questions.
Additionally, the government clarified constitutional rules regarding the Attorney-General's age limit and appointment authority, noting President Tharman Shanmugaratnam approved the tenure extension. TOC published the required correction notice but maintained the content was analytical opinion rather than factual falsehoods.
