Quebec Premier Christine Fréchette announced Monday a series of measures to help residents cope with rising costs. The plan includes a $50 cut to vehicle registration fees and payments of up to $200 for eligible households. The provincial sales tax will be removed from certain grocery and household items starting July 15.

A one-time payment of up to $200 will be issued automatically to those eligible for the solidarity tax credit starting June 4. About 3.5 million people will benefit, including 295,000 families with children.
The vehicle registration fee reduction applies to most passenger vehicles for one year starting September 2026. The government estimates a family of four could save nearly $350 this year through the combined measures.
