Quebec Health Minister Maïté Blanchette Vézina has introduced a bill aimed at curbing energy drink sales to minors, prompted by the 2024 death of 15-year-old Zachary Miron. A coroner linked his cardiac arrest to a combination of Red Bull and ADHD medication.

However, Blanchette Vézina, the sole Conservative member of the legislature, has signaled she may block fast-track passage, delaying debate until after the fall general election. She argues that energy drinks account for only 11% of teen caffeine consumption, citing industry data.

Despite her stance, the bill has broad support from opposition parties, public health associations, and school boards. The Familiprix pharmacy chain has already voluntarily removed energy drinks from its shelves.
