The United States launched a new round of air strikes against Iran on Saturday night, targeting coastal surveillance and air defense facilities.

US Central Command said the strikes hit Iranian military capabilities and were designed to degrade Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

The strikes followed an Iranian attack in Jordan on Friday that killed two US service members. One member remains missing.

In retaliation, Iran's army said it carried out drone attacks on two US bases in Kuwait.

The US death toll in the conflict has now risen to 16. A preliminary ceasefire agreement between Washington and Tehran collapsed weeks after it began in June.
