Nineteen members of an alleged baby trafficking syndicate, including 70-year-old Lie Siu Luan (Lily), appeared in court in Bandung, Indonesia, on Mar 31. The trial was postponed by a week to allow all defendants to obtain legal representation. Prosecutors claim babies were sold to Singaporean couples first due to higher profits, then to Indonesian parents; unsold babies were reportedly given to orphanages. Some members allegedly posed as birth mothers or relatives, using forged documents to avoid detection. This syndicate is suspected of trafficking at least 25 children, 15 of whom were sent to Singapore.
