Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut is calling for Congress to vote on halting the current military action in Iran, describing it as an "illegal war of choice." Murphy stated on "Face the Nation" that the President is "intentionally tanking our economy" and engaging the nation in "quagmires overseas that are already becoming deadly to American soldiers."

Murphy argued that the administration's goals of regime change and eliminating Iran's missile and nuclear programs are unlikely to be achieved through sustained air strikes. He cited intelligence suggesting hardline Iranian leadership could replace the current government, and that bombing has not demonstrably halted Iran's nuclear ambitions.

The Senator also connected the overseas conflict to domestic policy, criticizing Republicans for seeking to halt funding for Homeland Security while the nation faces threats. He asserted that ICE should stop allegedly "murdering American citizens" and that the administration should not send American children to die in an unnecessary war.

Murphy contended that the President inherited a working nuclear agreement (JCPOA) but dismantled it, leading to the current crisis. He believes the current strategy of air strikes without a ground invasion is destined to fail, potentially resulting in a stronger hardline government in Iran and renewed conflict.
