A 25-year-old man has been arrested in southern Spain on suspicion of killing his parents and injuring four others, including two babies, in a rare mass shooting.

Police say the attack happened around 11 p.m. local time Monday in the small town of El Ejido, near Almería.

Four other people were seriously injured, including a seven-month-old infant believed to be the suspect's son, and an 18-month-old baby. A 60-year-old man was also among the wounded.

The suspect briefly fled but later turned himself in at a local police station.

Spanish authorities have not formally identified the suspect or the victims. The Guardia Civil is investigating a possible motive.

Mass shootings are rare in Spain. Project Insight, a European gun crime tracker, recorded only four such incidents between 2000 and 2023.
