US President Donald Trump announced Monday that a preliminary agreement to end the war with Iran has been signed. Speaking at the G7 summit alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, Trump stated, "The deal is all signed."
Senior US officials briefed that the framework extends a ceasefire for 60 days, providing a window to negotiate a final settlement. The agreement was signed electronically by Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. A formal signing ceremony is scheduled for Friday in Geneva.
The deal mandates the immediate cessation of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon. However, officials clarified that the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory is not a condition, and Israel retains the right to self-defense.
Trump confirmed he ordered the removal of the US naval blockade of Iranian ports, with the critical Strait of Hormuz expected to reopen by Friday. Technical negotiations on Iran's nuclear program are set to begin this week. Any sanctions relief will be contingent on Iran meeting its commitments under the deal.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asserted that forces would remain in regional security zones as necessary and stressed that Iran would not be permitted to obtain nuclear weapons, regardless of the agreement. Iran’s foreign ministry acknowledged the deal while expressing "deep mistrust" of the United States.
