President Donald Trump warned on Wednesday that US forces would strike Iran "hard" in the coming night, after earlier declaring Washington's ceasefire with Iran over at a NATO summit in Ankara.
"We're gonna hit 'em hard tonight," he said, accusing Tehran of violating the agreement daily.
Trump also threatened to strike Iran's civilian infrastructure and seize Kharg Island, a major oil hub.
"Maybe we'll take over Kharg Island. We may take over Kharg Island. There's not a thing they could do about it," Trump said.
His comments followed overnight US strikes on more than 80 Iranian targets, which Iran responded to by attacking US bases in the Gulf.
"As far as I am concerned, it's over," Trump said. "I don't want to deal with them any more, they're scum."
NATO chief Mark Rutte called the overnight strikes "absolutely necessary" after Iran attacked three ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
US Central Command said the strikes targeted Iranian defense systems, coastal radar sites, and over 60 Revolutionary Guard Corps small boats.
Bahrain, home to the US Navy's 5th Fleet, sounded its missile alert sirens Wednesday morning. Kuwait's army said its air defenses were engaging hostile attacks.
Iranian Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari warned any attempt to land troops on Iran's coast would mean entering a "living hell."
Iran's parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, declared on X that the "era of bullying and extortion is over."
The US also revoked a license authorizing the sale of Iranian oil as part of the interim deal following the shipping attacks.
