President Trump announced Friday that Russia and Ukraine will exchange 1,000 prisoners as part of a three-day ceasefire coinciding with Russia's Victory Day this weekend.

Trump said the temporary halt to all kinetic activity runs from Saturday through Monday, though neither Russia nor Ukraine has officially confirmed the timeline.

On Truth Social, Trump said he requested the ceasefire and thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for agreeing.

"Hopefully, it is the beginning of the end of a very long, deadly, and hard fought War," Trump wrote, noting peace talks are progressing.

The announcement follows U.S.-Ukraine meetings in Miami and last week's call between Trump and Putin.
