The UN International Atomic Energy Agency has issued a confidential report, seen by AFP, warning that Iran’s unmonitored nuclear material represents a “proliferation concern.” Since the start of the Middle East war in June 2025, the IAEA has been denied access to key nuclear sites, including Isfahan and Natanz.
Prior to the June 2025 strikes by the US and Israel, the IAEA estimated Iran had 440 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60%, dangerously close to the 90% needed for a bomb. The fate of that stockpile remains uncertain. The IAEA conducted an inspection at the Bushehr nuclear plant this week, but calls for full access “without delay.” Agency head Rafael Grossi is urging Iran to engage constructively. The report will be debated at the IAEA board of governors' meeting next week. Iran denies military ambitions.
