Ecuadorean and US forces have initiated operations targeting designated terrorist organizations within Ecuador. The US military's Southern Command confirmed the action is aimed at disrupting illicit drug trafficking, a growing concern in the South American nation.

President Daniel Noboa stated that approximately 70% of the world's cocaine now transits through Ecuador's ports, making it a prime location for drug cartels. The country's proximity to Colombia and Peru, major cocaine producers, further exacerbates the issue.

Recent discussions between President Noboa and US Southern Command chief Francis Donovan focused on enhancing information sharing and operational coordination at key airports and seaports. The US Southern Command emphasized a commitment to confronting "narco-terrorists" responsible for widespread terror, violence, and corruption.
