The United States says it carried out self-defense strikes over the weekend on Iranian radar and drone control sites on Qeshm Island and near Goruk, in response to what it describes as aggressive actions by Tehran.

US Central Command reports that Iran shot down a US MQ-1 drone operating over international waters. US fighter aircraft subsequently eliminated Iranian air defenses, a ground control station, and two one-way attack drones. No US personnel were harmed.

In retaliation, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps says its aerospace force targeted a US air base used in what Iran calls a US attack on a telecoms tower on Sirik Island. The location of the base was not disclosed.

The two countries have traded strikes in recent days, with previous exchanges centering on drone operations near the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, Kuwaiti air defenses intercepted hostile missile and drone attacks, with air raid sirens sounding across the country. The Kuwait Army confirmed the interceptions in a statement.
