A Pentagon assessment indicates that clearing the Strait of Hormuz of Iranian-laid mines could take up to six months. This operation is unlikely to begin before the end of hostilities.

Lawmakers were informed that Iran may have deployed 20 or more mines, some utilizing GPS technology for remote detonation, making them difficult to detect. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell has stated that information regarding the mine situation is "inaccurate."

Iran's Revolutionary Guards have warned of a potential "danger zone" spanning 1,400 sq km where mines may be present. Iran's parliament speaker has stated the strait will not reopen while the U.S. naval blockade remains.

International talks are underway in London with military planners from over 30 countries to discuss a multinational mission to protect navigation and conduct mine clearance operations in the Strait of Hormuz.
